By Guns and Roses:

By U2:

By Bon Jovi:

All of these are cool, but none of them come close to Christ knocking at the door of your heart as in the Bible:

Rev3:20 (NASB) “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

What is happening to our youths?!

•October 24, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I am really wondering what is happening to our youths and how did they become like what they are today. Youths are the leaders of tomorrow, in fact I believe they are also and can be leaders starting today! That is why it is so disturbing to see news and reports of our youths are becoming like this. Please refer to the reports below:

136 youths were arrested for loanshark-related activities

Loan shark runners are getting younger

3 youths believed to be involved in armed robberies arrested

Boy makes tombstone fvor teachers

Selfish Act

Brags about shoplifting

Proud to be under-age smoker

Some people will blame the schools and our education system, some will blame the media and internet, but rarely will we put the blame on the parents and society. There is that much school and education systems can do. Parents and society play a very important part. I once had a prinicpal friend who related this incident to me. A boy was caught stealing in school, so the parents were called in to meet the principal. To the principal’s surprise, the parents’ first words to the boy was “why so stupid, if you want to steal, don’t get caught!”. I was also surprise that any parents would say things like that, but it happens. So what are the parents teaching their children.

In a wider perspective, we have to look at how we as adults conduct ourselves in society. This will send signals to the youths about which value system will be right or wrong. Take a simple example about courtesy, no matter how much the school teaches about courtesy and graciousness to the students, once you are in the MRT station or the MRT, you will see all the ugly actions and ways that we, adults conduct ourselves. No wonder the schools fail and what moral right do the adults have to tell these youths what is right or wrong? I really pray and hope that the parents and society in Singapore pay more attention to these disturbing trends of the youths. It takes many generation to build up Singapore and her wealth, but it will only need one generation to waste all of it and destory Singapore!

Freedom? Democracy? Kangaroo Court?

I am amazed by how quiet when something opposite happens in Singapore’s political scene. When the film “A Singapore Rebel” was banned, there was so much protest and unhappiness floating around on the cyberspace. Now that the ban is lifted, no much was heard about this only reports and netizens matter of factly stated the truth that the ban was lifted. This is the strange case of PAP-bashing.

I am also waiting to see how the cyber community would react to the acquittal of 5 SDP leaders and activitists from the charge of holding a procession without a permit. How many times that the western and some local observers and the opposition parties members criticised that Singapore Justice system only serve the ends and needs of the ruling party.

Well, if that is the case, we should see more opposition party members taken to task, jailed or being sued into bankruptcy. If this is true, then no judge would dare to acquit any opposition leaders for the fear of his/her own career. The facts showed that this is not so, why not give these administrators and guardians of our justice a break and let them do their job! I believe in the integrity and fairness of our Judiciary system and that these men and women serving this system went about doing their jobs fearlessly with integrity, serving only to safeguard the  interest of our society.

Vaccine reduce risk of infection

•September 24, 2009 • Leave a Comment

A recent news from the CNA website:

AIDS breakthrough as vaccine cuts infection risk for first time

They finally found a vaccine that can help to reduce the risk of contacting HIV. The vaccine was already tested on the various groups of people in both US and Thailand.

I am not sure whether to be happy and glad to see this news. I think it is going to be a double edged sword, in that it will definitely reduce the number of HIV infected people in the world. This is a good news! But will this vaccine, it also create a moral hazard situation, in that there is lesser risk associated to promiscuity. So would this cause an increase in promiscuity and hence other problems associated with this? This is only my opinion and my initial reaction, I must admit that my arguement may not have been well thought out and it might be a slippery slope. But as I said, it is my initial reaction. :)
